NANCY CLEARWATER HERMAN

BLASTS FROM THE PAST

I have given a lot of thought to what art I would like to donate to the Legal Defense Fund for the 'Save the Barnes Campaign'.  I wanted it to be something that I created just for this occasion as this struggle has become so much a part of my life over the past few years.

All of my FELT work was created during this time.  Looking back on it,  I think this work has a lot to say about my unconscious feelings during this  period as you can tell by the titles - Secrets, Pass the Word, and  Seeing Eye to Eye.

Recently I have been searching the web for images of old posters and  ads to make into collages as this is something I can do between  composing emails and press releases in my role as a member of Friend of the Barnes.

I love looking at old posters and ads as they say so much about not only the art of the time but the zeitgeist of the human community at any given moment.  There are often unexpected ideas that emerge when these images are combined that make working with them a real joy.

For the Barnes piece I searched for Museum posters and art.  I found many  provocative and interesting images and combined those that wanted to  settle in together in  MUSEUMS SPEAK, the piece created especially for the Legal Defense Fund.

However, I will donate half the proceeds of any of the work sold from this page to the Legal Defense Fund.
